HOW TO IMPROVE A ROOM FOR A TEENAGER: EXPERT OPINION
Pavel Gerasimov, one of the founders of the Geometrium studio, shared information on how to properly equip a room for a teenager. According to Paul, one of the main difficulties during the arrangement of the room, which parents may encounter is a quick change of interests of children, related to age.
The main rule of the arrangement of the nursery is to arrange it in such a way that in the future, without difficulty, the nursery can be transformed into a teenage room.
The first steps in the arrangement of the children’s room for a boy
Before creating the interior you need to imagine in the smallest detail how a teenager will live in this very room: you need to equip a sleeping place, a workplace, and so on. It is important to ensure that in places where the child will spend the most time, there will be no problems with access to the outlet. You should consider the location of the outlets and make sure that they were in sufficient quantities. It will not be superfluous to choose options for outlets with an increased level of security.
What materials and decor is better to use for the walls in the nursery
According to Paul, it is better to try to avoid complex decor in the nursery, a variety of patterns, natural wood, and so on will be superfluous. The ideal option would be a finish that can be quickly replaced: paint or a special marker coating. Marker coating allows you to draw on the walls and then quickly erase the inscriptions without any problems. This option will be very practical and versatile: at a very young age, the kid will be able to draw children’s drawings, and in adolescence, try his hand at work.
Furniture for the children’s room: how to choose?
In order not to update the furniture every 2-3 years, it is better not to buy furniture for the smallest ones, made in the form of various machines with children’s drawings. What the kid liked when he was 10 years old will cause discomfort at 14. You need to try to pick up furniture in such a way that it is equally comfortable and practical for both the child and the teenager. Furniture must meet the needs of the child: a desk, a bed, a place to store toys, things, and so on.
Is it necessary to take into account the opinion of the child in the design of the children’s room?
Parents often categorically relate to the arrangement of the interior of the children’s room, not allowing a teenager to choose the appropriate option. To make the room as comfortable as possible, you should consider the wishes of a teenager. Parents should allow the child to express themselves and to arrange the room to his liking, otherwise, instead of proper comfort, he will experience discomfort and discomfort while in his room.
If the wishes are too eccentric – it is worth making a compromise: to create an interior in the way parents want, but leave the child a place for self-expression, for example, in the form of an empty wall, where a teenager can draw, hang posters and so on.
And most importantly – listen to the opinion of a teenager! Only he himself can tell what room he needs. It is better to ask his opinions personally than to rely on your tastes – such a move will allow you to create the most comfortable and pleasant interior, and also provide an opportunity to bring the parent closer to his child.
